Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Facing Devastating Vocal Cord Damage
|Legendary rock singer Steven Tyler, known for his iconic voice as the frontman of Aerosmith, is currently facing a dire situation with his vocal cords. Earlier this week, it was reported that the band had to cancel a month’s worth of tour dates due to Tyler’s vocal cord damage. However, recent reports suggest that his condition is even worse than initially feared.
According to TMZ, Tyler’s vocal cords were severely damaged to the point where he can barely speak. The 75-year-old singer’s recovery is assured, although the duration is uncertain. It is evident that he is facing significant challenges with his famous singing voice.
In an update shared on Aerosmith’s Instagram page, the band confirmed the postponement of several upcoming shows in Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Raleigh, and Washington D.C. These shows will now take place in early 2024. Tyler himself addressed his fans, expressing his disappointment and revealing that doctors have advised him not to sing for the next 30 days.
“To all our fans,” Tyler’s statement began. “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days. I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding. We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”
Reports suggest that Tyler blew out his vocal cords during a recent concert in Long Island, causing them to bleed. He then traveled to Boston to see his ENT doctor, who confirmed the severity of the damage through X-rays.
The incident occurred early on during Aerosmith’s set, but Tyler continued to perform, hiding his impairment from the audience. TMZ sources claim that he can currently only “squeak” when he attempts to speak.
Despite the challenges, Tyler remains determined to return to the stage as quickly as possible. He plans to continue hitting the high notes that fans love, even though they may be risky for his vocal cords.
The postponements have altered the schedule for Aerosmith’s Peace Out: The Farewell Tour, which was initially set to run from September 2 to January 26. The tour will now conclude on a later date, with the band resuming their performances on Monday, October 11.
